Recreation: Jaunty Juli's Spring Floral

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Hi!

I've been seeing so many beautiful spring manicures lately, I can't believe I haven't done some recreations already!

Today I recreated these gorgeous nails by the enormously talented Jaunty Juli.

Polishes Used:
Deborah Lippmann Spring Buds | Deborah Lippmann Tip Toe Through the Tulips | JINsoon Tea Rose | Deborah Lippmann Laughin to the Bank

I opted for a more vibrant, summery feel by using more yellow and bright-toned colors than Juli did. In the end, I prefer Juli's color scheme, but I do still like mine :)

What have been some of your favorite spring designs?

Nail Fail: Yellow Flowers?

Sunday, April 27, 2014

Hi!

First, sorry for the lack of posts last week! I've been so busy dealing with what I'm doing this summer -- interviews for being a volunteer camp counselor, and I'm applying to the very prestigious Stanford Youth Orchestra so I ended up practicing about double the amount of flute I'd been planning on practicing. At least the weather's been nice!

I did have time to do one manicure last week, but I'm feeling kind of "ehh" about it...

Polishes Used:
Deborah Lippmann Walking on Sunshine | Wet n Wild Black Creme | Love & Beauty unnamed red

Something about it just didn't "work". I think it might be the colors. Walking on Sunshine (the yellow polish) is a pretty color by itself, but I think this design might have looked better with a mint green or pastel blue instead!

Now I can take photos outside! Yay!

Oh well. As Sammy of the Nailasaurus says, "done is better than perfect"!

What do you guys think, nail fail or just a little odd?

Bedcover Nails [Snippet]

Thursday, April 17, 2014

Hi!

I've been really bad about keeping to a posting schedule lately because I have no time to write posts, so I've decided that I'll write full posts when I can but when I don't have time I'll make do with snippets :)

These nails were inspired by a duvet cover.

Polishes Used
OPI My Vampire is Buff | Sephora by OPI Read My Palm | BK #11

I don't know why my photos look so gray and underexposed, they looked a lot better on my other computer's screen! :c

Flip Flop Fantasy Skittle

Sunday, April 13, 2014

Hi!

I recently picked up a bottle of China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy in a sale at my local Sally's, after hearing so many good things about it.

I only realized there were two different versions of Flip Flop Fantasy (new and old) after I brought it home, but I think I like the new version more than the old version! It's more of a neon coral color than a neon pink color, which is pretty :)
It makes my hands look super tan, which could be a good or a bad thing...?

Polishes used:
Wet n Wild French White Creme | China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy | China Glaze First Mate | Wet n Wild Black Creme | Claire's studs
I kind of did whatever I felt like with these, neons seem to be perfect with crazy designs! I tried to add some navy blue to the tribal with China Glaze First Mate, but it pretty much blends in with the black.

These were super fun to do, and I think they'll also be fun to wear as the temperature around here climbs into the 70s and 80s :)

Blobby Floral

Sunday, April 6, 2014

Hi!

Today on my Cinderella hand I did some sort of blobby floral things (I'll do something non-floral next week! I promise!). I was inspired by getonmynail's beautiful design (take a look here), but I had to simplify it because my right hand can't really do much.

Polishes Used:
Zoya Jacqueline | Nails Inc St Martin's Lane | Sephora by OPI It's Totally Karma | Deborah Lippmann Walking on Sunshine | Nails Inc Porchester Square

I used one of my favorite polishes, Zoya Jacqueline, as a base, and made some gray stripes on top. Then I used the polish brushes to make some blobby flower-like things and leaves.

I had a bad break while playing frisbee yesterday, so I had to chop all my nails down to nubs. *sigh* I think they look kinda cute though, and it makes it easier to text... but I got polish all over the tips of my fingers while doing these!

These were really fun and simple to do, I hope you guys like them!

Tree Nails ft. Porchester Square (I'm Baaack!)

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Hi!

It's so amazing to be able to do my nails again. I didn't even realize how much I missed it until I started painting my nails this morning! It's weird, but I feel so much happier today than I have for most of this month. Although that might be because today was in the 70s (Fahrenheit), sunny, and I'm on spring break. Either way, it's good to be back!

For my return to the blog I wanted to do something really clean and elegant but also kinda cheerful. Nude florals were the obvious choice!
I had to go through a couple of nail fails (I didn't even take pictures, they were THAT bad) before settling on this design...

Polishes Used:
Nails Inc. Porchester Square | Wet n Wild French White Creme | Deborah Lippmann Walking on Sunshine | Julep Fiore | Nails Inc Gel Effect Polish Kensington High Street | Studs from Claire's

Porchester Square is my favorite nude polish. The pink-toned gray color goes really well with my skin (well, better than most nudes, haha) and it gives full coverage in one coat!

I felt like this design was begging to be made matte, sooo...

Mattified! with JINsoon Matte Maker

Somewhat unrelated, but our family got our DSLR camera back from the repair shop (do my photos look better?) and I'm trying to learn how to use it not in "auto" mode! I decided that taking photos of bottles of nail polish would be a great way to familiarize myself with the menu options on my camera. If you want to see the photos you can go to this tumblr I started :)

Lastly, thanks so much to all the people who guest posted for me -- I loved all of the guest posts! I hope you guys did too!
